21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
January 4-25
For 26 years, we have been setting aside a week at the beginning of each year for a dedicated time of prayer as a church family — prayer week.
This year, we want to expand and deepen this practice by entering into a 21-day period of prayer and fasting, January 4-25.
Why?
1. We want God.
The posture of a people who are hungry for God is prayer and fasting.
"You are as close to God as you want to be." -Tozer
2. We live in an environment of frantic busyness and chronic distraction.
The battle for our attention is relentless. This is a time to pay attention to our attention, to give the Lord what He's worthy of receiving — our best. Where attention goes, affection flows.
3. We recognize some breakthroughs only come through a focused time of prayer and fasting.
Jesus told his disciples in Mark 9 that some things only come out by prayer and fasting. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6 that our battles are beyond physical; they are spiritual at their core.
Prayer is defined as a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God, but it's so much more than that. Yes, God is there to listen to our requests and it's important to thank the Lord, but prayer also gives us the opportunity to hear from God. For Jesus to talk directly to us.
Prayer can also shape our lives and draw us into a deeper connection with Jesus.

Daily Devotion for the 21 Days:
P: Pause
"I pause now to be still. To quiet the noise around me, so I can center my whole self on You."
R: Read + Reflect
A: Ask
-Do you know someone who might need encouragement in this? Or has God put someone on your heart so you can pray for them?
-Do you, in reflection on this Scripture, need to confess sin to God and/or someone else?
In the quiet of the next few moments, ask God to help you + whoever God brings to your mind.
Y: Yield
"As I leave this posture of prayer (though prayer doesn't stop here), I give You my heart, soul, mind, and strength; lead, guide, and empower me, Holy Spirit, to be Your ambassador throughout my day. Amen.
