"My people, hear my instruction; listen to the words from my mouth. I will declare wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past— things we have heard and known and that our ancestors have passed down to us. We will not hide them from their children, but will tell a future generation the praiseworthy acts of the Lord, his might, and the wondrous works he has performed. He established a testimony in Jacob and set up a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children so that a future generation— children yet to be born—might know. They were to rise and tell their children so that they might put their confidence in God and not forget God’s works, but keep his commands."
-PSALM 78v1-7
What if the move of God you're praying for comes in a generation yet to be born?
As a pastor for the rising generations, I love what God is doing through Generation Z (and Gen Alpha is on their tails)! The Outpouring at Asbury in 2023, the various revivals happening on college campuses across the world, England's radical return to the Lord, signs and wonders happening in this generation, and so much more. Praise be to God for all He's doing!
Even with all that I've listed above, there's many of you who are reading this that are either unaware of all that God is doing in this generation or uninterested because you're not experiencing it.
Look, I get it.
I'm a millennial and we are known mostly for the deconstruction movement (which had its ups and downs).
But even with all that God is up to in Gen Z, I've still been struck by the header question: What if the move of God you've been praying for comes in a generation yet to be born?
And here's possibly a more haunting question to consider...
Would we actually be content if God chose to move in a different generation, in a different region, or in a different way than what we're hoping or praying for? Or after our lives here on earth are up?
Here's a sobering reality that I think the American church needs reawakened to: the Jesus movement has never been about one generation.
Or a few generations. Or your generation.
Jesus is after all generations! All tongues, tribes, and nations!
All people, everyone, need to hear and have an opportunity to respond to the Gospel!
Which is why, when God reveals himself in the burning bush to Moses, when Moses asks God to reveal His name, he says...
"Say this to the Israelites: The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation." (Exodus 3v15)
He is the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob...
And the God of the Millennials and the God of Gen Z and the God of all future generations!
We cannot become so narrow-minded and hard-hearted to approach the mission of our local churches as a non-profit organization that exists to meet my needs.
How incredibly selfish and unbiblical!
Our work of discipleship, evangelism, worship, and mission are all aimed towards telling the future generations "...the praiseworthy acts of the Lord, his might, and the wondrous works he has performed."
Praise God that the Church will outlive our current generations!
And so, with that being said:
Eagle Church: may we be a collection of saints, with our eyes fixated on King Jesus, and crying out for the Holy Spirit to move in our current and the future generations; that the Kingdom would advance in greater measure, even when we've been long in Glory.
Today, Eagle Church family, live with generations in mind; believing that the Kingdom investment God is leading you to do is preparing future generations to know and believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!
Love y'all!
