We often underestimate the impact a child’s faith can have. A child learning about who Jesus is, taking those truths home with them, and simply sharing what they have learned can become something far more transformative in the spiritual lives of families than we could even imagine.
For Eagle Church attender Katie Wefler, this is something she has witnessed firsthand. Through the eyes of a child in her own family, Katie saw how God could use a little heart to reach others with the gospel — an experience that played a significant role in where God was calling her next.
Katie grew up in Zionsville, moving there when she was in middle school. After attending Purdue University, where she met her husband, David, the two returned to the Zionsville area after graduating together. In 2019, they first came to Eagle Church through an Alpha class with friends, and through that experience, they felt the Holy Spirit leading them to make Eagle their church home. Today, the Weflers are an active part of the Eagle Church community, where they are raising their two children. Katie and David serve on Eagle’s Prayer Team, Katie serves as Vocal Director on the Worship Team, and David serves with Middle School Ministry and is on the Elder Board.
For over a decade, Katie was involved with Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), eventually serving on their staff and teaching the Bible. During that season, she cared for her young niece and nephew while their parents worked, allowing the children to attend Bible study alongside her.
Their parents were not believers at the time.
As Katie’s nephew learned about Jesus by attending those studies, he gradually began taking those truths home and sharing them with his parents. What started as the simple wonder and faith of a child became something much more transformative. Over time, Katie watched as her sister and brother-in-law came to faith in Jesus and together, their family was baptized.
“I never understood what an impact a child hearing the gospel can have,” Katie shared. “Actually seeing it unfold in my own family—seeing committed atheists come to faith through hearing their child tell them what Jesus did for them—I’m not sure I really understood the impact that could have.”
Not long after, Katie began sensing God asking her to close the chapter on her time with BSF. She stepped away without knowing exactly what would come next.
Then, the Director position for LifeWise Zionsville kept crossing her path.
At first, Katie was terrified. The role felt like a significant step outside the ministry environment she was familiar with. She continued to set the opportunity aside, telling God that if He brought it back around, she would consider it.
He kept putting it on her heart.
Eventually, Katie began to see the connection between what God had just done within her own family and what He might be calling her to next.
Katie saw that God had used the faith of one child to transform an entire family—and she began to wonder what He could do through the lives of many more.
In May 2026, Katie stepped into her role as Director of LifeWise Zionsville.
LifeWise Academy provides released-time religious instruction for public school students during the school day. With parental permission, students are transported off school property for Bible teaching without missing core academic instruction.
LifeWise Zionsville currently serves students from Boone Meadow and Pleasant View Elementary. This school year, classes will also be available to students at ZWest and ZMS, expanding LifeWise Zionsville’s reach into the middle schools. Katie hopes to eventually see every student in Zionsville Community Schools have access to the program, with a vision of reaching 1,000 students.
That opportunity is especially meaningful because more than half of the students currently enrolled in LifeWise Zionsville do not attend a church.
“We’re not trying to be the church for them,” Katie explained. “We’re trying to introduce them to the gospel, let their kids fall in love with Jesus, and then get them to a church so that the church can pour into them and disciple them.”
Eagle Church has already had the opportunity to come alongside Katie in this new calling. One of her first meetings as director was with Pastor Ted, and although she wasn't sure what capacity Eagle would have to support LifeWise, she was immediately met with a willingness to help. That support has taken shape in practical ways, including providing space for LifeWise gatherings, a place to park a LifeWise bus, and opportunities to share more about the ministry with the Eagle community.
Now, Katie is asking the Eagle community to continue coming alongside LifeWise through prayer and service. She shares a few ways you can tangibly get involved:
- Pray that God will continue to open doors in Zionsville schools, strengthen relationships with school administrators and local churches, and work in the hearts of students and families who will hear the gospel through LifeWise.
- Serve as a teacher, staff member, bus driver, or volunteer. Even just a few hours during the school day can have a meaningful impact.
- Enroll your student in LifeWise and give them the opportunity to engage with biblical teaching during their school day.
- Share LifeWise with other families in the community and learn more to help spread the word to others in our community.
She has already seen what God can do through the faith of one child. Now, she’s trusting only Him with what He can do through the next.
